The Grape Escape Brings Innovation To The Hands-on Winery Industry

July 9, 2007 - Dayton, NJ – The Grape Escape opened its doors in the Fall of 2004. By bringing innovation and advanced winemaking techniques to the industry, its growth is a direct result of these innovations. By introducing a “Build-A-Wine” concept to the marketplace, customers have direct impact on making their own premium wine. The Grape Escape, the first and only winemaking school in Middlesex County, is now the largest producer of Chilean wine in the United States.

At The Grape Escape, area wine enthusiasts will learn the art and science of creating fine red or white wines, using some of the finest grapes in the world. They learn to crush grapes, press must, barrel the wine, and bottle their own wine, in an enjoyable relaxed atmosphere. Additionally, they have the opportunity to personalize their bottles with customized labels.

This unique experience only takes 3-4 sessions over a 10 month period, totaling 4-5 hours of hands-on winemaking. Winemakers can make their own wine for their own personal enjoyment, for special occasions such as holidays, weddings, reunions, or for personal and client gifts. It is a fun and casual environment which is perfect for sharing with friends, family and co-workers.

The Grape Escape was the first to offer such a variety of premium grapes from five regions. From South America, customers can choose grapes from either Curico Valley, Chile or Mendoza Argentina. From California, customers can choose between the three renowned regions of Napa Valley, Sonoma and the Sierra Foothills. The Dayton hands-on winery was also the first to offer three different barrel choices (American Oak, Hungarian Oak and French Oak) to its customers. Along with choosing which type of oak barrel to age the wine in, the customer also has the flexibility to age the wine for 1,2 or 3 years. These flexible winemaking options brought flexibility and choice to the consumers never before available.

Along with flexibility, the Grape Escape also was the first to offer Ozone technology in the hands-on winery market. Ozone technology is used to sanitize all the barrels and equipment before the wine ever touches it. This sanitation technique is used in some of the largest wineries in the world. The Grape Escape is also the only winemaking facility to install a nitrogen infused bottling process ensuring the aging process for the wine after it is bottled.

“The Grape Escape was started with the concept of changing the industry,” said Thomas Nye, CTO (Chief Tannin Officer) and co-owner at The Grape Escape. “First, we ensured that the grapes were the best that could be obtained and then we introduced these custom winemaking options to separate ourselves from the competition. Our concept was to allow wine lovers the opportunity to make premium $20-$30 bottles of wine for around $10 a bottle.”

“Although the technology and the wine quality is a key element to the success of our business, it is the focus on our customers and having fun that essentially fuels our growth. Our repeat customers have told us that and we take seriously our commitment to ensure a wonderful experience.” Said Nancy Nye (Chief Fun Officer) and co-owner.

“The next step in the process is to secure exclusive contracts with our grape growers around the world. We are also aggressively ramping up the franchising opportunities. We are actively setting up territories and investigating markets to pursue. The business was setup from the beginning to explore this aspect, from the marketing material to the software that was developed to run the business.” Said Thomas Nye.

Winemakers and funseekers can now order California grapes for the Fall Crush at (609) 409-WINE (9463) or online at GoGrapes.com.
